I don’t care who you are, a Christmas party with fun friends or close family is where it’s at! Lots of comfort food, way too many sweets, and maybe a decadent beverage or two! Sign me up, Santa! I love stringing up the warm ambiance, feeding people, sharing hugs, and getting some good quality laughs in – always invite that one person who’s laugh is so contagious, #fave. If that’s the sort of thing you’re after, then stay tuned my holiday ho ho homie!
It’s time to dust off those ugly sweaters and bring out the mistletoe because we’re jumping into the magical world of Christmas party planning. Whether you’re a seasoned master of holiday gatherings or a first-year festivity host, this guide is packed with tips to make your holiday party sleigh (see what I did there). Grab your cocoa, and let’s get this merry show on the road!
Think beyond the classic red and green (though they’re classics for a reason). How about a Winter Wonderland, a Cozy Cabin Christmas, or even a Santa’s Workshop? The theme sets the stage for all your decorations, food, and activities, so pick something that sparks joy and let your creativity run wild.

Your invitations are the first taste of your magical party. Go digital with animated e-cards that twinkle like the North Star, or keep it traditional with hand-delivered cards sprinkled with glitter (because who doesn’t love finding glitter everywhere for weeks?). Make sure your invites scream “You won’t want to miss this!”
Deck the Halls: Decorating Tips
Time to turn your home into a holiday haven. These tips can go for any theme you choose. Start with a show-stopping Christmas tree. Go big, go bold, and don’t be shy with the tinsel. String lights everywhere—indoors and out—until your place can be seen from space. Add garlands, wreaths, and candles to create that cozy, festive atmosphere. And for the ultimate touch? A roaring fire (real or Netflix, your choice).
Along with the ideas I listed above, here are s’more delicious food and drink ideas. Think finger foods and bite-sized treats that keep the energy high and the clean-up low. Mini Christmas quiches, reindeer cheese balls, and gingerbread cookies are favorites. For drinks, a hot cocoa bar with all the fixings and some holiday-themed cocktails will keep your guests warm and merry.

Keep the party lively with some holiday-themed games. Try a Christmas trivia quiz, a gingerbread house-building contest, or a classic game of Secret Santa. For the kids (and the young at heart), a Santa scavenger hunt or pin the nose on Rudolph can bring a lot of laughs and memories.

Set the mood with a Christmas playlist that mixes old-school classics with modern hits. Think Mariah Carey, Bing Crosby, and a dash of Michael Bublé. Sprinkle in some instrumental tunes for dinnertime and some upbeat tracks for when it’s time to dance around the tree.
If you are anything like my sisters and me, we are full on belting Christmas tunes starting at thanksgiving (which annoys almost everyone else but us). Anyone else’s family as …we’ll say …spirited?
Send your guests home with a little piece of the magic. You could have the activities become the party favor, like decorated Christmas cookies, gingerbread houses, or the holiday themed acrylic painting they created. Otherwise, personalized ornaments, mini stockings filled with treats, or DIY hot cocoa kits make great party favors. It’s a sweet way to say “thanks for coming” and to let the holiday cheer linger with them a little longer.
When it comes to getting inspiration for gift giving, I created this post —> “Unique Christmas Gift Ideas for Everyone on Your List” to help you get started making your list and checking it twice.
